pic-2In keeping with the past practice, the Westminster Abbey, on 17 March 2016,
organized a special Evensong to commemorate the National Day of Pakistan,
observed on 23 March every year.
The Very Reverend Dr John Hall, Dean of Westminster led the Evensong. Special
prayers were offered for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan and its people,
as well as for the continued friendship between the two countries.
H.E. Syed Ibne Abbas, Pakistan High Commissioner to the UK attended the Service
and was greeted by the Canon in Residence on his arrival. Later, speaking to the
Dean of Westminster, he expressed his appreciation for this very special
gesture by the Westminster Abbey for organizing, in advance, the solemn occasion
to mark the National Day of Pakistan. The High Commissioner stated that Pakistan
greatly values its links with the UK and other Commonwealth nations.
The highlight of the day was Pakistani flag flying for the day on top of the
north tower of the Abbey.
From the High Commission, Deputy High Commissioner read out excerpts from the
Bible. Officers of the High Commission and their spouses were also in
attendance.
