dailypeghamISLAMABAD/NEW DELHI: Pakistan and India’s National Security Advisers contacted each other on Monday, after tensions looked to further escalate between the two nuclear-armed nations.

According to the Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Pakistan’s Nasser Janjua and India’s Ajit Doval spoke to diffuse tensions between the two countries.

“Both officials stressed on the need to establish contact to reduce tensions along the Line of Control,” said Sartaj Aziz.

Sartaj Aziz said that India was escalating tensions with Pakistan at the Line of Control to deflect the attention of the world from Kashmir. He said that Pakistan wanted to bring down tension with India at the Line of Control so that it could focus on the issue of occupied Kashmir.

“The Prime Minister had indicated quite clearly that till the issue of Kashmir was not resolved, tensions across the border would remain,” said Sartaj Aziz.

Relations looked to be heading downhill further on Monday as Indian media claimed that an Indian army camp was attacked by six armed militants at Baramulla, Srinagar. One Indian Border Security Force member was killed and a couple were injured, according to media reports from India.
