KARACHI: In its attempts to maintain stringent security measures for the upcoming Muharram processions, the government of Sindh has imposed a ban on pillion riding from 6pm on Saturday.

According to details, IG Sindh AD Khawaja has instructed police officials to stay alert with regard to incidences of target killing. Security has also been tightened around Imambargahs and Muharram processions.

On the directions of Additional IG Karachi Mushtaq Meher, a ban on pillion riding has been imposed from 6pm today till 11th of Muharram. Police stated that the ban on pillion riding has been imposed keeping in mind the recent incidences of firing in the metropolis and maintenance of law and order in Karachi.

Muharram processions have been targeted in Karachi and other cities of Pakistan in the past as well. Scores of Muslims take to the streets on 9th and 10th Muharram to mourn and observe the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (A.S) and recall the tragedy of Karbala.
