Nawaz calls for unity in 10th Muharram message
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Tuesday that keeping in mind the current circumstances of the country, unity was the need of the hour.
In his message on the eve of 10th Muharram, PM Nawaz praised Imam Hussain (R.A) and stated that his example of tolerance and patience was an unprecedented one.
“Imam Hussain (R.A) chose to opt for the path of martyrdom instead of tolerating oppression,” he said. “To safeguard one’s rights is more important than protecting one’s life,” he said.
He said that people should promote the principles of equality, tolerance and unity. Nawaz stated that it was important that one rose above provincial and ethical divisions on this important day.
“Pakistan was created to achieve such noble objectives,” he said.
10th Muharram is an important day for Muslims across the globe, as on this day Imam Hussain (R.A) was martyred by the forces of Yazid in the battle of Karbala. Facing an army of thousands with just a handful of followers, Imam Hussain (R.A) refused to give up and accede to the demands of the forces of oppression. He battled the enemy until all of his followers were martyred. In the end, he also gave his life for humanity.
