NEW YORK: Pakistani singer Momina Mustehsan instantly shot to fame not only for her musical prowess but also due to her beauty. However, the Pakistani songstress claimed in a recent interview that she was in no way expecting such a reaction to her looks.

“I never knew my smile could become such a big deal,” she said as she spoke to a news organization in New York about her instant rise to national fame. “Coke Studio is a big platform and when you’re doing a song beside Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and it’s Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s song, so it obviously became huge. I was just a small part of it,” she said.

Momina Mustehsan said that never considered herself a model or an actress and admitted that she still didn’t have what it takes to shine on the silver screen.

“I can’t act to save my life,” she said. “I’ve had several offers to star in Pakistani drama serials and I’m honoured. However, I don’t think I can act ever since I’m only a singer. “I’d sink the movie I star in with my acting,” she said, jokingly.

Momina disclosed that she had never learned music in school and had only naturally discovered her talent. Regarding her favourite musical artists, she said that her tastes were not particular and that she listened to ‘whatever her friends usually put on’.

On the subject of tackling her detractors and critics on social media, Momina said that it came with the fame.

“Obviously when there are so many people who love you nationally, there are bound to be those who dislike or hate you as well,” she said. “They are keyboard warriors and they tend to hate on you, even if they themselves are doing nothing at all,” she said.

Momina Mustehsan also weighed in on the upcoming US Presidential elections and stated that she was in Hillary Clinton’s corner.

“I don’t necessarily support her, it’s just that I dislike Trump a lot,” she said. “She is the lesser evil and I think that’s what politics is all about, at the end of the day,” she added.

Momina claimed that not only was Trump speaking ill of women in general but he was also against Hispanics, Muslims and other minorities. She stated that everything that he was saying was against the concept of the American dream.

Though she couldn’t disclose her upcoming projects, the petite songstress claimed that she was working on exciting stuff which was related to music.
