Benazir Bhutto murder case: PPP challenges High Court verdict in the SC
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has challenged in Supreme Court (SC) the verdict of High Court for releasing on bail police officers convicted in Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto murder case.
Rashida Bibi, a widow of PPP martyred worker has filed a petition in SC through Advocate Latif Khosa taking the plea that high court decision for releasing the two convicted officers on bail runs contrary to the law and facts.
It was stated in the petition that trial court awarded 17 year imprisonment each to both accused while high court suspended their punishment after keeping their appeal pending.
Petitioner while terming the procedure of suspending the conviction malafide and against the law has prayed the apex court to issue orders for cancellation of bail granted to Sauood Aziz and Khurram Shahzad. Family members of Benazir want execution of the accused persons, she added.
Criminal conspiracy has been proved in the case while high court has not made correct review of evidence and facts, she stated in the petition. Case is running since the last 10 years. Sauood Aziz has misused his official authorities. Benazir Bhutto was assassinated mercilessly, she added.
It is vital to mention here that 23 people were martyred while 71 were injured in the incident.
